The sad and often
unspoken fact that comes with constantly talking about alternative revenue
streams for musicians (in place of record sales) is that the alternatives don’t
really replace the sales revenue at all. In fact, most of them have been there
all along, but they were more like less prestigious supplements to healthy
music sales. There is obviously no quick fix so the only viable solution is to
work harder and work at things that may not have occurred to you yet. For
example, one of the best ways boost any and all revenue streams is to focus on
writing. Blogs are a great way to build visibility and give fans a more
three-dimensional view of your music. What’s potentially more effective is
learning to write better copy. Better social media posts, better press kit
content, better Facebook ads, better YouTube descriptions, better flyers for
shows can all give you the extra hook you need to build sustainable income.
