In the ongoing conversations about social media,
YouTube is often mentioned alongside the other usual suspects (Facebook,
Twitter, etc.). But does it belong in that particular line-up? Does it belong
in the same conversation? Not to imply that YouTube and standard Social Media
are mutually exclusive, but it seems like one is objectively better than the
other. Generally speaking, if the Internet is slowly replacing television,
which it is, you get an opportunity that television never offered, your own
channel. Granted, it is not a ‘channel’ in the same sense, largely because you
have millions of competitors, but you also have a potential audience of over a
billion. Other than that, the most obvious advantage is that YouTube is now
monetized. Granted, you aren’t going to make a fortune but until Facebook Likes
replace the Euro, YouTube has the upper hand.
