Onesheet - LinkedIn for the Music Industry!

All professionals need the proper representation these days, and with new media sites that seems to be pretty easy. The problem is a lot of these sites aren't always catered to people in the music or creative industries. Well, now there's Onesheet! Kind of like the LinkedIn of the music industry! Instead of just being a social media outreach like Facebook or Twitter, Onesheet will allow musicians to post their experience and skills, as well as projects they may be working on, or people who represent them. The goal is to help musicians work on an actual career!

Below is a list of the new features Onesheet is adding to their profile pages:

  • Highlighted Media – Users can pick the video or audio that shows them off best and add it to the top of their new Onesheet.
  • Press  Users can now add the URL for the article that’s been written about them and Onesheet pulls in the title, blurb, and image.
  • Endorsements – Users can now ask people they’ve worked with to visibly endorse them.
  • Tags – Add what skills you have, what instruments you play, etc.
  • Privacy – Password protection on any new project Onesheet, meaning if you have a new single, movie, album, or other project that you want to share with people, you can build a Onesheet for it and only allow access to those that should have it.
  • Content from the Web – Like the old Onesheet, pages stay up to date with content from other sites.
  • Projects (Coming Soon) – Add entire filmographies or discographies.
  • Representation (Coming Soon– List your manager, agent, publicist, etc

Social Media Networking - Things To Remember

Almost everyone is on a social networking site of some sort nowadays, or so it would seem. But what is that everyone is always talking about? Well, according to an infographic put together by Brandignity, it's ourselves!

People tend to be very narcissistic and forget that social media was originally created to keep in touch with others and share, not just glorify yourself. And this goes for bands to! Social networking, when used properly, is a great way to get your name out there and reach other musicians and people in the music industry to help push your band along. But unfortunately social media sites are a mixed bag. They've also taken away the basic people skills you get from interacting with an actual human-being. People rely so heavily on the internet for everything, that almost nothing is done in real life anymore. But it's important to have skills in both areas.

Below are tips for bands to remember while Twitter-ing, or social networking in general.

TOP 5 TWITTER DOS & DON'TS FOR MUSICIANS
Do: Include your band's name (or a relevant term) in your Twitter handle.
Don't: Choose an off-putting or rude handle that could limit your following.
Do: Post what you tweet on Facebook.
Don't: Tweet or post only your own music and content.
Do: Interact with your fans.
Don't: Come across as unapproachable.
Do: Follow up on interest beyond Twitter.
Don't: Conduct all your business in public on Twitter.
Do: "Have fun on Twitter."
Don't: "Allow Twitter to take your time away from conducting business."
